Global Road Safety Week Thought Starters
- Work with your local Governor's or Mayor's office to proclaim 'Global Road Safety Week’ in your area to help bring publicity and awareness to your efforts.
- Stage a mock crash on the local high school lawn with the respective number of students representing young driver casualties sprawled across the school lawn before school and before an evening extracurricular event. Invite the media to cover the story.
- Work with local gas stations to display GRSW and young driver statistics on/near gas pumps during GRS week – targeting both teens and parents.
- Create a flyer from a school yearbook page and place an X through the proportional number of student faces to represent the 1 in 10 Young drivers who are killed each year.
- Work with local law enforcement agencies to perform a seatbelt check on cars entering the school parking lot before and after school and at an evening sporting event where high attendance is expected.
- Organize a PTO meeting to brief parents and school staff on the statistics of young drivers and the importance of reminding teens to always wear their seat belt.
- Work with local high school athletic directors to create half-time and post-game announcements that include local statistics and remind everyone - young and old - to buckle up when they leave the event.
- Work with local DMV offices to post information on safety belt statistics and to distribute informational material to young drivers - and their parents - when they receive their first or renewal license.
