AGGRESSIVE DRIVING MATERIALS PREVIEW

AGGRESSIVE DRIVING PUBLIC INFORMATION MATERIALS COMING SOON!

Aggressive driving is all around us. Most of us see it every day - the road racer, the red light runner, the tailgater, the frequent lane changer. Drivers too often are climbing into the anonymity of a vehicle and taking out their frustrations on anybody at any time.

Some acts of aggressive driving are easily recognized - weaving in and out at high speeds, speeding down the shoulder, or flashing lights and honking with little concern for other motorists. Other acts are less recognizable because they've become commonplace! Taking risks to get to daycare to avoid those high overtime fees; "I have to catch this light" as the result of a lousy, long day at work and now errands won't get done; or frustration from congestion and impatience with the others on the roadway that can make otherwise normal people tailgate, switch lanes, fail to use signals and refuse to let others merge. What can we do? How can we stop this cycle of aggression - that of the drivers around us or perhaps our own?

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is releasing the first materials under the Stop Aggressive Driving logo in November 1999. Currently being developed and focus tested in both English and Spanish are radio public service announcements, media outreach materials, tip sheets, graphics depicting the consequences of aggressive driving, and other public education products.
