The Community Youth Bicycle Initiative, an urban bike safety program, is a new effort to deal with the bicycle safety concerns in urban areas. The program identifies these issues and provides innovative solutions for this population. The new public information and education materials are directed toward at-risk youth primarily in urban areas. A "How to" instructors guide with community-specific components will be available in August 1999. For more information write to: "Community Youth Bicycle Initiative," NHTSA Traffic Safety Programs (NTS 15), 400 Seventh Street SW, Washington, D.C. 20590
NHTSA's Ride Like a Pro program with the National Football League has been a success for several years. A new community handbook (4) is being prepared to enable local communities to put on their own Ride Like a Pro events during the fall football season and leading up to the Super Bowl.
