 Program Materials
The Partnership for a Walkable America is a national alliance of public and private organizations including NHTSA, the Federal Highway Administration and the National Safety Council. It has created materials designed to encourage walking as part of a healthy lifestyle while emphasizing safe pedestrian practices and "share the road" messages for all travelers. These materials include:
- National Walk Our Children to School Day (2), a report on the 1998 event with photos and success stories from across the country, and suggestions on how to plan an event for the 1999 Walk Our Children to School Day on October 6th. Available from: Partnership for a Walkable America, c/o National Safety Council, 1121 Spring Lake Drive, Itasca, IL 60143-3201.
 Consumer Materials
- The Walkability Checklist (1), is a fun and easy-to-use survey that lets parents and kids "take a walk" to assess how "walkable" their neighborhoods are (also available in Spanish).
- Walking Through the Years is a three-part pedestrian safety program designed to teach pedestrians about traffic safety risks they face. This program has been adapted for Hispanic audiences, and includes materials designed for older adults, children and parents/caregivers. An educator’s guide, Spanish-language video and other English and Spanish materials are available. Write to: "Walking Through the Years," NHTSA Traffic Safety Programs (NTS-15), 400 Seventh Street SW, Washington, DC 20590.
- Mission Impossible: Operation Safe Walk, a video that provides important safety messages for seniors in a humorous way. It is ideal for use at community meetings or in preparation for trips organized by seniors groups. Order from: NHTSA Office of Communications and Outreach (NTS-15), 400 Seventh Street SW, Washington, DC 20590.
