Early summer means "school’s out!" Kids of all ages will be out of school and spending more time on the sidewalks, streets, parks and playgrounds of our communities. For everyone, summer fun often means being out and about from morning till night: bicycling, walking, jogging, motorcycling, even in-line skating and skateboarding, as well as driving.
When so many people are on the move in so many ways, we all need to be alert and be on the look out for others, no matter how they – or we – are traveling.
This activity guide has ideas for activities to undertake any time your community members are out enjoying pleasant weather. This guide also contains information about a problem facing many communities which may worsen with summer’s congestion and heavy traffic volume: aggressive driving and speeding.
No matter what safety activities you will undertake this summer, this Planner can help you find the resources you need. The left side of this folder includes a State and Regional Contacts list of state and regional safety offices, camera-ready ads and logos, a catalog of NHTSA programs and materials, and helpful how-to guides, such as Conducting Earned Media Outreach to improve the effectiveness of your media efforts.
