Dear {Law Enforcement Official, Community Leader},

My name is {student's name}. I'm {age} years old. I'm a {student/scout} at {school/town}. I am writing to ask you to keep me, my family and my friends safe.

Lots of children like me are at risk of being hurt in cars. Crashes are the leading cause of death for kids. I'm asking you, please, to lend your voice and help make sure everyone buckles up on every trip.

And I don't just mean kids. I mean adults too. Some folks say it's an adult's decision whether or not to wear a seat belt and we shouldn't make them. Well, did you know that when adults don't buckle up, kids riding with them are only buckled up 30% of the time? Also, did you know that when adults buckle up, children with them are buckled up 94% of the time? There's no better reason to make adults wear seat belts. They know it's wrong not to wear seat belts, but some still don't listen. Their behavior is putting us at risk. Please help make them stop.

I'll tell you what I'm going to do. I'm going to get all my friends to pledge to always wear a seat belt on every car ride and I'm going to get my whole family to do it too. I've included a copy of my pledge for you to see.
