AUTO SAFETY PROGRAMS
(CAR BUYING INFORMATION)
CONSUMER MATERIALS
Two brochures give auto buyers a wealth of safety information and explain what to look for when shopping for a new car:
Buying a Safer Car (2) explains the various government safety tests and lists test results for many popular new model year vehicles. It also explains key safety features and includes information on the availability of some optional safety features. Available from NHTSA or from any AAA service center. (April 1999, DOT HS X0641, Item #8P0018)
Buying a Safer Car for Child Passengers (3) provides information on safety features that are important if children will be regular passengers in a new car, including whether or not the vehicle has a rear center seat lap/shoulder belt, built-in child safety seats, adjustable upper belts (rear), or a manual air bag on-off switch. It also includes a "Family Car Checklist" to take when car shopping. Available from NHTSA or from any AAA service center. (March 1999, DOT HS X0576A, Item #8P0017)
