Getting To School Safely: Fall 2000

Stay tuned! Next fall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) will launch a new campaign focusing on "Getting to School Safely." Children travel to school in many different ways, so this campaign will address the full range of transportation safety topics throughout the school year – walking, bicycling and riding in school buses and private cars, as well as what motorists need to do to keep school children safe.

Although the campaign is still in the planning stages, you can expect:

  • a national event that you can tie into
  • with local events;
  • an action kit listing activities to do
  • throughout the school year; and
  • materials tailored for the media.

Teachers, school administrators, school transportation directors, and concerned parents and community members can use this campaign to assure that all students get to school safely during the 2000-2001 school year and beyond.
