The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) produces
Campaign Safe & Sober Program Planners to help highway safety organizers at the community and state level plan meaningful, lifesaving programs and to support making every community a Safe Community.
Contents of This Planner
This time of year is filled with many traditional annual highway safety events from National Child Passenger Safety Week in February to May's Motorcycle Safety Month, National Bicycle Month, "Buckle Up America" week and the Operation ABC Mobilization held the week before Memorial Day.
Program Planner 21 includes ideas for activities, tools to help you implement these ideas, and directions to new and existing resources that
you can use in participating in this season's safety weeks and months. Some activities are date-specific, but you can undertake many of these activities whenever they are appropriate for your state and community.
What is Campaign Safe & Sober?
Campaign Safe & Sober is a growing and dynamic program that takes place at the grassroots level, in communities across the nation, and run by people like you.
Three times a year, NHTSA publishes Campaign Safe & Sober Program Planners, an up-to-date resource for state and local program managers. Program managers can implement the ideas presented in the planners during the time period suggested or whenever appropriate for their community.
How Can Campaign Safe & Sober Help You?
Campaign Safe & Sober Program Planners:
- help program managers who are looking for new twists to make existing programs more effective. The planners also assist those new to the field of highway safety by providing basic information and sources for materials and technical assistance.
- make it easier to expand your highway safety program, providing ideas for
activities year-round, for new topic areas and for new partners.
- help to increase the visibility of highway safety activities by coordinating emphasis periods, messages and activities among participating state and local programs.
What's New About Campaign Safe & Sober?
We're changing Campaign Safe & Sober to make it easier for you to:
- Plan seasonal activities. Campaign Safe & Sober Program Planners are now geared to support all of your highway safety activities over the season covered by each planner, rather than being focused on just one issue (such as impaired driving or seat belts). That means you'll find ideas for a wide range of timely programs in this Program Planner.
- Find materials and other resources. To make it easier for you to find the NHTSA programs and materials useful to you, planners now include a program publications catalog. This catalog summarizes the NHTSA programs, training opportunities, and new materials that support the activities outlined in this planner. Combined with the list of State and Local Resources, it will direct you to the people and pieces that are relevant to your highway safety activities. Beginning with this planner, upcoming NHTSA-sponsored highway safety conferences are also listed.
- Find information on the Web. The Campaign Safe & Sober Web site www.SafeandSober.org allows you to pre-order planners online and directs you to the Web-based version of Campaign Safe & Sober Program Planners. The planners will be posted, in a searchable and downloadable format, even before they are available in print. Some information may be available only on the Web. Please visit the Web site and share your ideas on the Bulletin Board.
- Get alerts on upcoming events. When you visit www.SafeandSober.org, please be sure to add your name to the e-mail list to receive the latest information on Campaign Safe & Sober. We will not use this list for anything other than Campaign Safe & Sober and related highway safety information and we will never release this list.
- Get the number of planners you need. The distribution system for Campaign Safe & Sober Program Planners has been revamped to expedite shipping and printing through pre-ordering.
