These flyers will alert you to new campaigns and upcoming highway safety events. Use this preview information, in conjunction with materials found in Program Publications for Planner 22, to plan successful highway safety events throughout 2000.

You Drink & Drive. You Lose. July Mobilization NHTSA is partnering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Nationwide Insurance Institure, law enforcement and hundreds of public safety advocates to conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols as part of the Fourth of July National Mobilization effort and National Sobriety Checkpoint Week. Join the National Mobilization to Combat Impaired Driving, July 4th Weekend.

Getting to School Safely is a new program being created by NHTSA and its partners. A “Community Action Kit” will contain information and materials needed to create community-based programs addressing safe school travel. School year 2000-2001

Drive Safely Work Week is an opportunity for organizations to help their employees practice safe driving habits both at home and at work, decreasing the direct and indirect costs of motor vehicle crashes. September 11-15, 2000

National Walk Our Children to School Day is a chance for children, parents, grandparents and
community leaders from all over the country to walk to school together to promote safer streets, physical fitness, and good pedestrian safety habits.

National School Bus Safety Week is held annually to focus attention on the role of everyone – parents, students, school bus operators, motorists, teachers, school administrators, etc. – in school bus safety. October 15-21, 2000

Buckle Up America/Operation ABC Mobilization will be held over Thanksgiving weekend, one of the heaviest travel periods of the year, with a united effort to enforce seat belt and child safety seat laws. November 20-26, 2000
